Nomination process


Candidate’s details should preferably be sent directly to the President of European Photochemistry Association, Prof Uwe Pischel [European candidates]; the President of the Inter-American Photochemistry Society, Prof Anna Gudmundsdottir [North and Latin American candidates]; and the President of the Asian and Oceanian Photochemistry Association, Professor Hiroshi Miyasaka [Asian, Australian and New Zealand candidates]. Nominations may also be sent to the Chair of the Porter Medal Committee, Professor James Durrant. .

The nomination package should include:-
– Curriculum Vitae of the candidate
– A list of publications
– A citation for the award, not exceeding five pages
– Two letters of reference

Closing date for the receipt of nominations 15 April 2022

Nominated candidates from the different regions will then be considered and ranked by the Executive Committees fo the appropriate Photochemistry Societies and Associations. Each Society/Association is asked to submit the full details of no more than two candidates to the Chair of the Porter Medal Committee Professor James Durrant.

Closing date for receipt of selected two candidates 30 April 2022

The Porter Medal Committee will then consider the respective rankings of the maximum six candidates, and select the winner, in consultation with the Presidents of the three associations.

Date of announcement of winner mid-May 2022

The winner will be presented with the medal at the 28th IUPAC Symposium on Photochemistry in Amsterdam, 17-22 July 2022.
